In this Keynote we discuss the valuable communication skills that have taken me from the Las Vegas strip as a magician to flying supersonic in one of the worlds most feared fighter aircraft, the F-16.
About
Hailing from the vast plains of Wyoming, Reed Barrett, call sign Roller, is anything but your typical millennial. At a young age, after watching the USAF Thunderbirds perform in his hometown of Cheyenne, the aviation bug bit Reed, and thus began his journey to the cockpit. Reed was commissioned into the USAF from the University of Wyoming through Air Force ROTC, where he received his bachelor's degree in Psychology. Shortly after Commissioning, Reed was Honorably Discharged from the Air Force due to a heart condition that, if left untreated, could spell disaster.
After receiving the news, Reed spent the next five years as a professional magician in Las Vegas, working at the Bellagio Hotel and other MGM properties. During this time, Reed took it upon himself to begin a career in Emergency medicine. Reed’s time in medicine includes time on a 911 ambulance and in the emergency departments of multiple level one trauma centers. In 2017, Reed was once again selected to attend Undergraduate Pilot Training for the Air Force. Upon Completion, Reed spent four years stationed in Washington, DC, with the DC Air National Guard flying the F-16, supporting Operation Noble Eagle. Although his career is varied, Reed has consistently been requested across the US to speak with companies, schools, and sports teams due to his less-than-normal background and triumph to be where he is today. Reed’s focus is on helping business leaders and healthcare professionals communicate effectively under pressure, boosting performance, decision-making skills, and relationship-building to drive optimal organizational success.
Currently, Reed “Roller” Barrett is a four-ship flight lead in the F-16, serving out of Denver, Colorado, at Buckley Air Force Base.
